Combination Packages

Depending on the types of edits included in the package, the process may take one to three rounds of editing. A round means that I’ve read the manuscript several times (“passes”) and edited it. I then return it to you for review.

Some types of editing can be done in the same pass, while other types need to be separated. For example, a structural edit (developmental edit or manuscript evaluation) can result in major changes to a story. Large sections of text may be rewritten, introduced, or removed. Corrections on the sentence-level may become obsolete and new errors introduced that without a follow-up edit will make it to publication. For that reason, I only do sentence-level corrections after the story structure has been finalized.

Some services, like line and copy editing, can be done in the same round. However, combining these services requires an editor to balance multiple focuses at once. I prioritize maintaining high quality even in combined rounds, but optimal results come keeping the services separate.
